I did a lot of different stuff this week for my blog and demo reel. First, I made a LinkedIn account since that is an important part of a real career. I added a picture and all my profile information, but I am working on adding contacts. You can find my profile here: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/stephen-phillips/87/3a9/25b
Second, I purchased a domain! I was tired of having my professional portfolio be
stephenphillips3d.wix.com/portfolio
so I got a paid Wix account that takes away the ads and gives me a domain. My portfolio is now:
phillips3d.com
It feels so much nicer!
Next, I updated my resume based on in-class suggestions and made it more current. It can be found on my portfolio here: http://www.phillips3d.com/#!resume/c152t
I made turn-tables for a couple models to put in my demo reel, but the wireframe mode for my second one got corrupted. I rendered the video and uploaded it to Vimeo anyway. It's now on my portfolio, replacing the stupid default Wix video. It can be seen here: http://www.phillips3d.com/#!demoreel/c217y
Everything is coming together pretty well. I need to get some better renders for the front page. Right now the pictures aren't even cropped to the right aspect ratio, so it looks very inconsistent.

Demo Reel started
This week I started my new demo reel. I spent 3 hours learning how to do a flythrough camera in my UDK old western town. I rendered it out and I think it's pretty alright. I put it into my new After Effects project and added a title screen with my name and job and email and website URL.
I also created a Vimeo account in preparation for my demo reel. I prefer it over YouTube because it is so simple and professional looking. My demo reel right now is 1080p, so I want it to look good in the end.

I downloaded Marmoset ToolBox so I can get some nice-looking realtime renders for my portfolio. I haven't tried it yet.

My new Portfolio!
I made a new portfolio website using Wix and I love how it's turning out. The formatting is so much better than a conventional blog. I've run into a few customization issues, but overall there are a lot of options to make good-looking websites easily. Here's the link to what I have.
http://stephenphillips3d.wix.com/portfolio
When looking for jobs I will purchase a domain name so that the URL isn't so clumsy.
I will tweak the website a little bit more, and later I will put in pictures that are properly cropped so that everything fits. Currently, the slideshow consists of random pictures thrown in there.
Next, I will start a new demo reel project using After Effects (I think?). I'll try to make some fly-throughs and turntables. It probably won't be finished and up on my blog site next week.
